The
Sour Drinks
That group of cocktails collectively known as sours
are among the most popular. In reality any drink which combines
a citrus juice, sweetening and a liquor is a form of sour drink.
The
classic combination is as follows:
- 1
part sugar or sugar syrup;
- 2
parts citrus juice (lemoon or lime);
- 8
parts liquor.
Of course the permutations are endless and at the end of the
day it is always a matter of individual preference. Aside
from whiskey sours, the above formulation can be used to produce
a gin sour, rum sour or brandy sour. There are probably plenty
more out there.
To
make a standard Whiskey Sour you will need:
- 1½
oz Bourbon Whiskey
- ½
oz Lemon Juice
- 1
tsp sugar or sugar syrup
Method:
- Shake
all ingredients with ice;
- Serve
in a sour glass;
- Decorate
with Lemon or Orange Slice and a red cherry
- Add
two dashes of Angostura Bitters before serving for a pleasing
tate.
Note:
some recipes call for Canadian Whiskey in place of Bourbon.
For a longer drink, top with soda water.
