Singapore Sling

According to the dictionary a “sling” is a mixture of sweetened spirits and water. Slings can be served both hot and cold whereas “toddies” - which have a similar origin - are always served hot. The basic “sling” consists of one part sugar or sugar syrup, two parts lemon juice and three parts liquor. Gin, run, Scotch and Irish whiskies can all be used to make a sling. However the best known and most frequently ordered is the “Singapore Sling”. It comes in many variations and even our own recipe provides for variations - limes for lemons, ginger ale for soda water. Take your pick.

You will need:

  • 1½ oz Gin
  • ¼ oz Benadictine
  • ½ oz Cherry Brandy
  • ½ oz Lemon (or lime) Juice
  • 1 tsp sugar syrup
  • 1¼ oz Grenadine Syrup

Method:

Shake all ingredients well and strain into a cocktail or Collins glass
Fill glass with soda water or ginger ale and float on top ½ oz Cherry Brandy
Decorate with Lemon or Orange Slice and a red cherry.
